    Dear Commissioners:

I lived in Merritt for nearly 35 years. My husband and I still own properties there. I fully support your decision for making the changes in the Cariboo-Thompson region.

The communities of Hope, Spuzzum, and Boston Bar are similar to the communities in Fraser-Nicola. They have a lot in common, as they are all small towns that depend on their jobs in the local resource industries like forestry, mining, tourism and transportation. Just because the residents of Hope or Yale go shopping in Chilliwack it doesn’t mean those communities need to be a part of Chilliwack. Just because many of the residents of Merritt and surrounding communities go shopping in Kamloops or go there for medical reasons does that mean Merritt and Kamloops should be joined into one constituency? Of course not! We regularly shopped in Kamloops for decades, but Merritt and Kamloops were never included in the same constituency.

Also, by adding Hope to Fraser-Nicola you were able to remove Princeton and add it to the lower-populated Boundary-Similkameen riding. That was also a good move. The people of Princeton will still have effective representation.

Once again, I strongly support the changes in the Preliminary Report. Keep up the good work.
